LeBron James, Serena Williams, Tiger Woods, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Naomi Osaka.
The basketball legend narrates a never-quit script over tough times for sports stars, but we can all receive inspiration from it.
Despite all his accomplishments, LeBron James has been down before. Back in 2016, the Cleveland Cav’s were down 3-1 to the Golden State Warriors in the best-of-seven Finals. But with a close win in Oakland, the Cavaliers won and became the first team to ever win it all after being down 3-1 in the Finals.
In this new Nike ad, James delivers a pep talk to the world, relating to battles with other stars like Tiger Woods, Serena Williams, and the New England Patriots’ 2017 Super Bowl win. All of which relates to how the world is dealing with today’s pandemic.
In a statement, James shared with the world we are fighting for something bigger:
“People are struggling and this continues to be an incredibly difficult time,” said James. “For me, thinking forward to a time when we’ll be able to play again, it keeps me going. Even if basketball looks different for a while, I’m excited about the possibility of getting back in the game because I know how inspiring and powerful sports can be. I think the lessons we learn from sport can inspire us all.”
This isn’t Nike’s first pandemic-related ad. A few months ago in mid-March, as the pandemic safety rules was first being enforced, the sports brand put out a simple tweet aimed to put individual discipline and action into a worldwide perspective.
In April Nike posted a new ad showcasing a phone book list with sponsored athletes working out at their homes. That spot supports efforts the company was making to its own digital products, using its Nike, Running Club, and Nike Training Club apps and motivation to help people stay active.
